The Federal Republic of Germany supports and sponsors 140 German Schools Abroad worldwide. These schools are generally run by non-profit school associations. Most schools offer instruction in both German and the respective national language. Students can earn German, national, and international school qualifications, which provide access to colleges and universities worldwide. The school’s offerings are aimed at students of all nationalities.

The German Evangelical High School in Cairo (DEO) is a traditional German-Egyptian exchange school and a recognized German School Abroad, sponsored by the German-speaking Evangelical Community in Cairo. It looks back on a 151-year tradition, making it one of the oldest, best, and largest German schools abroad worldwide. It is committed to the free and democratic constitutional order and, in keeping with Protestant tradition, aims to be a place of intercultural and interreligious encounter, where affirming one’s own cultural and religious identity is simultaneously key to openness in contact with others, both neighbors and strangers.

The DEO is known for its very high educational standards, which are achieved through qualified teaching and highly motivated students. The DEO Cairo is located on a spacious campus in the Dokki district, not far from the Nile. In October 2019, our new upper school building was inaugurated by German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas. Thanks to state-of-the-art equipment, classes are held digitally.
